Prudential Center is
a multi purpose indoor arena in the central business district of Newark, New Jersey.
It was designed by Populous, with the exterior designed by Morris Adjmi
Architectural services. Having opened its doors in 2007, it became and still is
the home of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League and the men's
basketball academy of Seton Hall University, affectionately known as the Seton
Hall Pirates. The arena seats 16,514 fans for hockey games and up to 18,711 for
basketball games. Fans and sports journalists have affectionately nicknamed the
arena "The Rock" in reference to the world renowned Rock of
Gibraltar, which happens to be the corporate logo of Prudential Financial, a
financial institution that now owns the naming rights to the arena and are
based within the local vicinity. During December 2013, the arena ranked third
nationally and ninth internationally for self-reported annual revenue.
In addition to the
many sporting events the Center hosts many artists and talents from around the
world including Elton John, Justin Bieber and many, many more.
